First... how big is your site ... I mean if you use your cpanel backup how much size you have...?
Secondly ... how good is your local machine internet connection ... will it takes like forever to download the backup file ...

if the answers are not bretty much and my connection is good

backup from the cpanel becuase it will backup for you the hole thing even the settings and the emails if you have any !!

download it to your local pc and then upload it to the new host and ask to restore from file ... you will get your site running as if it does not go off .. but you will need small trick is to let your free domain running for a while to redirect the members to the new one ... if this could not work ask me again I've another trick ... I mean if download will take like forever

Actually, if you look real close through your cPanel you can just transfer from one domain to another.

You can also use your php function in cPanel to download and save your database as well, this has to be done to include incerts, so it will incert all the current data when you upload to your new empty database. this has to be done with care as you will need to save the folders that holds your photos, remember your photos are not stored in the database. so its best to use the cpanel domain transfer function as it will import all your folders and scripts. with passwords.

If you need some help, you can contact me through your website and I will get back to you. There is a time difference. I am currently in Japan.
