news feed is easy.

in admin panel --> user permissions (and click on the image, not on the text link)

you (should) see protected page

by default allowed roles: guest is checked.

so, uncheck guest and check general member

for photos, you need to go to your phpMyAdmin

look in the jcow_menu table for the row with field : 'name' = Photos and field 'type' = community (should be row id 5, but can be different) change field 'protected' from 0 to 1 and change field 'allowed' to 2

Nicely done 'arizon' I have done this and works mint only thing is if you do a update of your modules it resets to 0 so you will have to redo it every time you do a mod update..
